First things first
What’s CNG (compressed natural gas)?
CNG is a low-cost, clean-burning fuel that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, compared to conventional gasoline and diesel fuels.
Also, CNG engines run more quietly and require less maintenance compared to diesel engines.
Gilbert has 51 vehicles powered by CNG fuel.
In 2015, Gilbert built its first CNG fueling station at the South Area Service Center for trash and recycling trucks.
Gilbert now has 73 natural gas fueling stations to support the growing CNG fleet (vehicles).
Gilbert is reducing diesel fuel consumption.
In 2018, Gilbert consumed over 400,000 gallons of diesel. In 2020, it reduced to around 200,000 gallons. CNG fuel is now the primary fuel.
CNG environmental impact in Gilbert
Gilbert’s reduction of diesel eliminated 3,338,885 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. That is equivalent to 329 passenger vehicles driven for one year or 3,806,220 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.
